Biography

Rebecca Santry is a UK–Canadian abstract artist living and working in Squamish, British Columbia, on the unceded traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).
Working primarily with acrylics on canvas and paper, Rebecca creates work that reflects the majestic landscapes and dynamic energy of the Pacific Northwest. Grounded in daily rituals of time spent in nature, her practice draws from movement, atmosphere, and layered environments, capturing not literal representations, but the felt experience of place through abstraction.
Relocating from the UK to the Pacific Northwest marked a profound shift in both lifestyle and creative direction. The dramatic physical landscape, combined with the thoughtful and active community of Squamish and the surrounding region, became an immediate and lasting source of inspiration. It is here that Rebecca made her family home and established the foundation of her artistic practice.
Rebecca studied art at Loughborough University School of Art and Design, where composition emerged as a key strength and a lasting focus within her practice. Her process is intuitive and hands-on, beginning with photographs, exploratory sketches and evolving through the careful shifting and layering of forms, textures, and colour. Natural elements and movement often guide these compositions, informing both structure and rhythm within the work.
For Rebecca, painting is a means of self-expression, reflection, and solace. Her practice offers a space to play, to experiment, and to be challenged, an ongoing dialogue between artist and environment. Art has become her therapy, a place to escape, play and challenge herself. Through her work, she seeks to share this sense of connection and invite viewers into a similar moment of pause, immersion, and feeling.
Rebecca Santry’s work is held in private collections and public spaces internationally, and is represented by The Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art.
